I always listen to music for about an hour before going to sleep every night. That has been my tradition ever since I got my first music player. I normally put my settings to shuffle if I’m feeling a bit random or Repeat track whenever I’m digging a song too much. I don’t make playlists. The nearest thing I do is listen to songs by artist or album. But last night before going to sleep I did something new— I made a playlist dedicated to old songs. When I say old songs, I mean those released during the 80’s and yesteryears. No 90’s. And then a surprising thing happened: I didn’t get sleepy even though I had a bombardment of 5 consecutive ballads at 2 o’clock in the morning. I have to admit, I can get the yawning effect listening to Ke$ha’s Blah blah blah in those wee hours. But it was a different story with Air Supply’s Making Love Out of Nothing at All and Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah. Well, I can’t say that lyrics nowadays DON’T MAKE SENSE or doesn’t tell a story at all because THEY DO. But what I can say is that the lyrics of the karaoke/videoke era as I put it (Because those are the songs normally sung in videoke sessions) a.k.a the 80’s, 70’s, and 60’s were POETIC. They don’t tell things directly. THEY MAKE YOU THINK. Maybe the reason I didn’t get sleepy at all. That’s why I LOVE Lady Gaga. She brings back the times when songs were a piece of art, and not just a record… and the melodies are great btw. So I thought, Why not celebrate great music by posting one everyday in tumblr? So I decided that I would share everyday 1 video of an old song here on tumblr :)
